What is inspiration and where do we find it? How do we use it to write a picture book or novel? When do we know our inspiration is enough for a published book? When to let it go? In this program for both adults and children who write, we'll explore the different ways to be inspired for new projects, to refresh old projects, and to write using all our senses to bring our inspiration to life for readers. Following a brief PowerPoint program, we'll do a writing exercise and share our ideas with each other. Be prepared to be inspired and connect with other writers. Barbara Herkert is the author of seven picture books, including nonfiction, informational fiction and picture book biographies. Her new picture book, Heronry, was released in June of 2026, and A Gathering of Crows, will be published in 2028 (Tilbury House), She is currently working on a middle grade novel that takes place on Stuart Island in 1909. Barbara has a degree in biology from UC Santa Barbara and an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University. She lives on the Hood Canal with her family, two dogs, and a variety of wildlife for neighbors which inspires her to no end. Learn more about Barbara Herkert.
