About this event
One of 66 upcoming events at Jefferson County Library, Port Hadlock.
Build strength, improve balance, and leave feeling refreshed! This 45-minute class combines gentle yoga, core strengthening, and mindful movement to help you feel your best. We begin with a Tai Chi-inspired warm-up to loosen the body and focus the mind before moving through a yoga flow that includes sun salutations, warrior poses, balance work, stretching, and core exercises. We will finish each class with a guided meditation, leaving you feeling centered, calm, and ready for the rest of your day or evening. This class is for beginners as well as those with previous yoga experience. The same class will be offered during all three sessions, so participants may attend one, two, or all three classes for additional practice and confidence. About Carla Powell Carla first took a serious interest in becoming a group fitness instructor after having back surgery twenty years ago. Sometimes life's challenges become the very thing that inspires us to discover our healthiest selves. Carla became certified to teach yoga-inspired fitness in 2008. Knowing that a strong core would be essential to protecting her back for years to come, she soon added a certification in core strength training. She taught both classes at Evergreen Fitness for 12 years and is excited to meet you and help you discover your own strength, balance, and confidence. A teacher by trade, Carla works for Olympic Peninsula HomeConnection as an academic advisor. She also teaches in-person classes including Swedish and Wired for Reading and has a special place in her heart for students with dyslexia. She has co-directed 13 Shakespeare plays over the past 14 years and often uses group fitness ideals when working with her drama students. In her spare time, Carla plays the alto saxophone with the Port Townsend Summer Band, Sequim City Band, and is a founding member of The Nordlanders who have performed at every Nordland Tree Lighting (except one!) since she moved to Marrowstone Island in the summer of 2002 with her family. Carla is excited to help participants build strength, improve posture, and discover the many benefits of mindful movement. As a bonus, she can't wait to teach in close proximity to so many books!
