About this event
One of 23 upcoming events at Jericho Public Library, and 4,989 across Long Island.
Diego Rivera (1886-1957) and Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) were major participants in a movement to redefine Mexican culture and identity after the revolution (1910–20.) Rivera through monumental murals and Kahlo through intimate self-portraits. The artists were romantically involved from 1928 until Kahlo’s death in 1954. The two artists are the subject of a MoMA, NYC exhibition and a concurrent Metropolitan Opera “El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego,” (both 2026). The designs of the MoMA exhibition, and the MET’s stage sets evoke the artist’s lives and artworks created by the Metropolitan Opera’s designer, Jon Bausor. Professor Thomas Germano will discuss Frida and Diego in a visual lecture about the lives, art, and times of two of Mexico’s best known modern masters.
