Wild Landscape Field Trip: Zumwalt Revisited An Artist Excursion to the Zumwalt Prairie Join the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture for a special field trip to the breathtaking Zumwalt Prairie in preparation for our upcoming exhibition, Wild Landscape – Zumwalt Revisited. One the largest remaining bunchgrass prairie in the Pacific Northwest, the Zumwalt Prairie is a treasured part of Eastern Oregon’s ecosystem, known for its sweeping vistas, vibrant wildflowers, and remarkable solitude. This immersive afternoon offers artists the opportunity to explore, sketch, photograph, and gather inspiration while the prairie is in bloom. More about Zumwalt Prairie HERE! Whether you paint on site or gather reference material for studio work, this is a rare opportunity to engage directly with the landscape that anchors this year’s exhibition. Zumwalt Prairie Access for Artists Artists may visit and work on the Zumwalt Prairie before and after June 13 using the four designated public access trails (map available below and downloadable from The Nature Conservancy’s Zumwalt webpage). On June 13, participants will have access to additional areas not normally open to the public. Please note that some of these locations may only be accessible that day and may not be available for return visits. Artists who plan to revisit the same exact site may wish to begin work along one of the public access trails.
