@ Join featured artist Josephine Langbehn and local historian Monica Gomez in the Joslyn Castle Music Room for a lively chat about the art and archives that inspired Langbehn’s solo exhibition From the Good it May Do. From the Good it May Do celebrates Sarah and George Joslyn’s deep love for Omaha and the enduring legacy of generosity they left behind for our beloved city. Inspired by countless hours spent researching primary sources preserved within the Lynhurst Archives, the work explores the communities that sustain us, the connections that ground us, and the choices that shape individual and collective experiences. It invites us to consider who we surround ourselves with and where we invest our capacities. At its heart, the exhibition reminds us that Sarah and George were ordinary people whose generosity enriched the lives of those around them and strengthened Omaha through education, culture, and civic life. Nearly a century later, their impact continues to shape the city, offering a testament to how individual acts of generosity can leave an enduring legacy. Josephine Langbehn is a Nebraska artist engaged in multiple disciplines. She is a painter and arts educator. Using historical photographs as a starting point, she paints portraits of people to piece together stories of past lifetimes to connect to people in the present. The paintings become opportunity for dialog to listen to peoples lived experiences. Taking an image that has been cherished through the years or those discarded and forgotten, she paints the images on a larger scale giving a moment to reminiscence and reflect. Josephine’s paintings have been exhibited in regional exhibitions across the state of Nebraska and in the Midwest. She holds a BA and MA in education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Josephine currently resides in Omaha working in her studio at Hot Shops Art Center. Follow her work on Instagram Monica Gomez is the Education and Engagement Manager at the Joslyn Castle & Gardens. Monica’s research disciplines center local history, material culture studies, and best practices for art history pedagogy. She holds a BA and MA in Art History from Creighton University and Towson University.
