A Tale of Two Quintets with Kathryn Goodson and Friends

Schubert’s “Trout Quintet” is from 1819 and includes the famous variations on his own wildly successful song, “Die Forelle.” In 1903, Ralph Vaughan Williams took up the same instrumentation to compose a lavish, Brahmsian work, which he then hid away. In the 1990s, his widow lifted the embargo, and it was released for publication. Pianist Kathryn Goodson and friends bring the two quintets into the same light — one a beloved classic, the other a passionate outsider.
