View the Series In October and November of 1964, the Oscar Peterson Trio walked into a New York studio with Peterson on piano, Ray Brown on bass, and Ed Thigpen on drums, and cut what would become one of the most beloved piano trio albums in jazz history: We Get Requests. Six decades later, it’s still the record many trios measure themselves against — a masterclass in swing, trio interplay, and wonderful arrangements that also incorporate the era’s bossa nova influence. In this 4th installment of Ellen Rowe’s All About the Trio this season, the Trio pays tribute to that landmark album, working through its indelible program of standards, including “The Days of Wine and Roses,” “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars,” “Have You Met Miss Jones,” and “My One and Only Love.” Expect the same qualities that made the original a classic: effortless swing, close listening, and a trio that sounds like it’s having a conversation. Ellen, Pete and Paul add their own perspective on what made Peterson’s approach to these songs so enduring, and why the album remains a touchstone for trios more than sixty years later. Kerrytown Concert House is honored to continue Ellen Rowe’s long-running and much-loved series, All About the Trio. Rowe — an acclaimed jazz pianist, composer, and educator — combines her two passions here, leading a jazz piano trio through concerts that spotlight an iconic jazz figure or style within the genre. Her easygoing commentary, paired with demonstrations from trio members and guest musicians, makes each show as illuminating as it is enjoyable. Join us for Rowe’s informative, inspiring jazz presentations throughout KCH’s 26-27 season.
