Celebrate Family History Month by discovering the stories of your past! Join us for a full day of genealogy and local history workshops designed to help you explore your family roots, uncover historical records, and learn valuable research techniques. Whether you're just beginning your family history journey or are an experienced researcher, you'll find resources, inspiration, and expert guidance to help you connect with your heritage. Workshop Schedule The first three lectures will be presented by genealogist Amber Oldenburg of One Branch at a Time. 9:30-10:30am - Researching Newspapers Outside of Newspapers.com - Explore numerous sites and archives that make newspapers easily accessible for little to no cost. 10:45-11:45am - Land Records: A Family Historian's "Bread and Butter" - Learn why land records are a valuable source for locating family in a particular place and time. 12:00-1:00pm - Land for the Landless: Homestead Records and How to Use Them in Your Research - Understand the wealth of knowledge that can be found in homestead records. 2:00-3:00pm - Indiana Room 101 - Learn about the resources available in the Main Library's Indiana Room. 3:15-4:15pm - Digitization at LPCPL - Learn about the work being done at LPCPL to digitize materials and make local history resources more accessible. 4:30-5:30pm - Make a Family Cookbook Using Canva - Learn how to create a family cookbook to preserve your family's favorite recipes.
