Read Freely Fest is South Carolina’s newest free book festival celebrating stories, ideas, and community in downtown Columbia. Held at Richland Library’s Main location, the three-day event features a wide range of literary programming designed for readers and writers of all ages. The festival includes bestselling author talks and panel discussions, live performances, interactive activities, book signings, and opportunities to meet favorite and emerging authors. An Indie Author Alley and Exhibitor Hall showcase independent writers, publishers, literary organizations, and bookish goods throughout the weekend. In addition to author sessions and panels, attendees can browse the Meeting Street Friends & Foundation Book Sale, enjoy vendor and food options on site and from nearby downtown restaurants, and take part in family-friendly activities including musical storytimes and crafts. No library card is required to attend, though space is limited for individual sessions.
