About this event

South Carolina played a pivotal role in the American Revolution, with more battles fought here than in any other state. The course of history would not have been the same without it. Experience this rich history on Revolutionary War Day, taking place on March 28 at the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum in Columbia. This annual event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers a full day of engaging activities. The event will feature an extensive display of weapons, 18th-century tools, re-enactors, and artifacts, along with demonstrations of musket and cannon drills. Medical practices from the Revolutionary era will also be explored. One of the day’s major highlights takes place at noon in the museum’s atrium—a dramatic reading of key passages from the Declaration of Independence. While Thomas Jefferson himself won’t be in attendance, the experience is sure to impress. Other activities will take place throughout the day, offering interactive and educational opportunities: SC250 Information Table – Learn about Sestercentennial events happening across the state as South Carolina approaches its 250th birthday. Make-Your-Own Corn-Husk Dolls – Create a traditional craft and take it home as a keepsake. Candle Making – Craft a candle to take home—perfect for the next power outage. Quill-Pen Writing – Experience the art of writing with a quill pen, just as John Hancock did. Touch Table with Replica Objects – Unlike most museum exhibits, these artifacts are meant to be handled. Woodworking Demonstration – See how woodworking was done before power tools and plastic. Ninety-Six Historic Site Table – Learn more about this significant Revolutionary War site. Additional activities will be available throughout the day, making this a can’t-miss event. The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is located at 301 Gervais Street in Columbia. Doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 28.
