Why Does It Cost So Much to Educate Our Children? Join LES and Union 28 staff in the Leverett Library's Community Room to learn about the rising cost of funding our public schools and what we can do about it. Every year, nearly two-thirds of Leverett's town budget goes to pay for our elementary school and for the middle and high schools to which we send our children. Those appropriations strain all town services and contribute to steadily rising property taxes. But the reasons for the high cost of education -- especially for small schools in our part of the state -- are many and complex. Join Leverett Elementary School Principal Siby Adina, Union 28 Superintendent Shannon White-Cleveland, Union 28 Director of Finance and Operations Caitlin Anderson May, and Leverett and Regional School Committeeperson Tim Shores to explore the financial obstacles facing LES, what is being done to meet those challenges, and how Leverett Elementary School's budget compares with other small schools in our region. Presented by the Leverett Education Foundation Not a library sponsored event.
