PLUS … Slice of History and Historic Baseball June 13 • 9 a.m.-4 p.m. EMANCIPATION DAY Iowa entered the Union in 1846 as a free state, but our history of civil rights is complicated. Use our family workbook to dive into the history of Black Iowans, from before statehood through the Civil War and landmark civil rights cases, as you visit our sites. ELECTION DAY Listen to speeches and vote for a new mayor of Walnut Hill—and learn who could and couldn’t vote in 1876. SLICE OF HISTORY FREE PIZZA while it lasts! Starts at 11:30 a.m. at the MidAmerican Energy Foundation Pavilion. HISTORIC BASEBALL FREE on the Front Lawn starting at 3:30 p.m. Watch our Walnut Hill Bluestocking play by 1876 rules, and take your own turn at bat! Bring a chair or a blanket.
