Encuentro Flamenco with Yinka Esi Graves SoHo Pilates- 132 Crosby St 8th Floor June 22nd, 7:30PM Encuentro Flamenco returns with a conversation and exploration with Yinka Esi Graves, a British dance artist and creator based in Spain whose practice excavates the links between flamenco and other contemporary forms through the lens of the African diaspora. Graves’ work asks profound questions about where flamenco lives: in the body, in history, in cultural memory, and how those questions become choreography. Her debut solo work, The Disappearing Act, has been presented at some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Nîmes Flamenco Festival, Tanz Im August, the Avignon Festival, and the Chaillot National Theatre’s Flamenco Festival in Paris. In early 2026, her collaboration with Poliana Lima, A Place to Dance, premiered at Teatro Central in Seville. This June, New York audiences will have the opportunity to see The Disappearing Act at the Lincoln Center Contemporary Dance Festival, and Encuentro Flamenco invites you to go deeper. Join us for an intimate conversation and hands-on exploration with Graves herself, as she shares the historical threads, personal experiences, and artistic questions that have brought her to flamenco and through it. Expect both dialogue and discovery, as she offers tools for inquiry that invite everyone in the room to engage with the material directly. Part experience, part conversation, this event brings you closer to the art form and the artists!
