About this event
One of 13 upcoming events at Ix Art Park.
Pure Diversity: Afro-descendants, Indigenous Women, and Migrants in ArgentinaArgentine visual artist Mirta Toledo invites the community to explore the cultural and racial diversity of Argentina through her artistic practice. Drawing from her own experiences and body of work, Toledo will discuss the histories, identities, and representation of Afro-descendants, Indigenous women, and migrants in Argentina—communities whose presence has often been marginalized or rendered invisible within dominant narratives of Argentine identity. The talk is presented in connection with Toledo’s exhibition at Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC), offering audiences an opportunity to discover the ideas and experiences behind the works on view. Through art, images, and personal reflections, Toledo explores questions of identity, ancestry, race, migration, beauty, belonging, and cultural memory while celebrating diversity as a fundamental part of Argentine society. The community talk and PVCC exhibition are part of Global ARTivism, a larger University of Virginia project organized by Dr. Nicole Bonino, Professor of Spanish and Italian at UVA.
