JOIN HERE FAQs – Frequently asked questions for Lake Tahoe Retreat What is there to paint on-site? Can I go elsewhere? The on-site location has a beach, dock, rocks, trees, a variety of cabins, distant mountains, and the lovely clear water of Lake Tahoe. In August there will likely be boats, kayaks, and a steamboat in our view for parts of the day. Artists are free to paint wherever they wish in the area, on-site or off-site, of course being respectful of others. We will be providing a list of suggestions for off-site painting locations. If you know of places that we should add to the list, please contact sacramento@californiaartclub.com. Where will we paint if it is raining? In case of rain, we will have space in a large conference room that can be used for painting. If painting indoors, please avoid strong smelling substances or materials that should be used with ventilation (this includes some odorless products). Additionally, for painting indoors bring whatever you need to keep your workspace clean. We want to leave everything as clean as we find it. Will there be an instructor? No. There will be one or more accomplished artists on site each day to interact with artists as they paint – helpful ideas, tips, etc. Be sure to inform the accomplished artist whether or not you want just verbal suggestions or more hands on help. They may offer to show you an idea with paint! Are there restrooms at all painting sites? Yes, Tallac Hall has restrooms. When painting off-site, there may or may not be restrooms. We will try to note this information in our list of off-site painting locations. Can I bring a guest for activities or meals? All participating guests of artists need to RSVP and pay the registration fee in order to attend meals. The registration fee includes 11 meals. Your name tag serves as your meal ticket. We may be adding activities for registered participants. If you are interested in leading or having a particular activity available, please contact: sacramento@californiaartclub.com. Is there a program activity on the last day? From 10 am to 11 am there will be a critique, details to be determined. We had a critique session at the end of the last two retreats and that proved to be very popular. What type of weather can I expect? We may have sunshine, rain, wind and other weather events, but generally, the end of August is sunny in the 70’s or 80’s with summer-like weather and an occasional afternoon thunderstorm. That being said, it can get cool and be rainy so plan accordingly. Pack for water activities if you like swimming. Kayaks are available to rent. Regarding meals, can you accommodate special diets? There are some limited choices that you need to ask for in advance (Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free, and Dairy-free). In advance of the retreat, we will be asking everyone to specify if any apply to you. In general, the feedback we have from other guests is that the food is fresh, prepared on-site, and very good. It is served in a dining hall with big windows facing the lake. Some people in the dining hall may be participating in other retreats occurring at the same time. Please note that alcohol is prohibited in shared public areas. What are the rooms like? Hotel-style guest rooms come with private bathrooms, bedding, pillows, and towels (beds pre-made). Most rooms have two queen beds, but exact configurations vary. Limited ADA rooms available. Items not included: hair dryer, microwave, refrigerator, phone, or television. Pictures are found here: https://zephyrpoint.org/guest-groups/hotel-style/, we are in Tallac Center. How can I check in on a different day if I can’t arrive on time on Sunday? Email or text Kathy Levenson at sacramento@californiaartclub.com or (530) 295-7112 to make arrangements for late Check-In. Our rooms are not available until 4pm on Sunday so please don’t arrive early. Instead check out other beautiful locations in the area. Can I bring a guest to the retreat? You may bring a guest, but your guest will need a separate registration. One person – one registration. Your guest can register here: https://www.californiaartclub.org/event/lake-tahoe-artist-retreat-august-23-27-2026/, click on “RSVP.” If your guest registers before May 30, 2026, they can take advantage of the early bird rate. 11. Can I bring a pet to the retreat? Zephyr Point Conference Center welcomes service animals but does not permit pets or emotional support animals. How can I reach other participants during the event? You will have meals in the same location so it will be easy to find other artists. We aim to prepare a list of participants, along with their contact information (text number or email for those who choose to be on the list) and provide this list at Check-In. I have a friend who lives in South Lake Tahoe, can I bring someone along to off-site painting locations? Yes, you can meet up with friends at off-site locations. However, this does not apply to on-site painting and activities. Everyone painting or hanging out on-site, needs to be registered. If you have further questions on this, please send an email to: sacramento@californiaartclub.com What is the refund policy for this retreat? This is our refund policy: Last day for refunds (less $30 administration fee) is June 30, 2026 at 11:59 pm. No refunds after June 30, 2026. Thank you for understanding.
