Suleiman - Nocturnes Nocturnes is written in two parts – a lullaby and a dreamscape. The entirety of the lullaby is created using a 16-note melody that unfolds sort of like a theme and variations. Strange and interruptions of this process occur in the vibraphone and strings. Some other world tries to break through, but can’t. That is, until the dreamscape, which is the result of the lullaby. I think of it as small lights in a large darkened room. It is a world of play and memory that operates a bit under the logic of dreams. A chord here, a creak there, bursts of light.
