Desmond Kendrick: Leatherwood & the Gravelys

At one time Leatherwood was the hotspot of economic activity in Henry County. The Gravely family ran a tremendous tobacco empire in the area where now we have Larry McNeely’s Leatherwood Grocery and, across Chatham Road, Lois Bowling’s art, furniture and upholstery shop (that brick building was once the tobacco warehouse). Desmond Kendrick grew up just down the road, hearing stories of the old days from Gravely descendants and their neighbors. His storytelling brings you back in time to the way it once was, and his unique historical pictures answer questions of what used to be where. Admission is free.
