Join us at M. Judson for a free In Conversation event with South Carolina author Jon Sealy for his new novel, The Night Hawk! He will be in conversation with fellow author Lindsey Jones ABOUT THE BOOK: Detective Luke Steele has settled into a new rhythm: nights in an upscale subdivision with his real estate agent girlfriend and her two kids. Mr. Suburbia. Mr. Stepdad. It almost feels real. Then flashing blue lights shatter the calm. A roofer is dead at the construction site two doors down. The county sheriff’s department calls it an accident, but Luke isn’t so sure. Partnering with Deputy Kayla Baker, Luke uncovers a deadly conspiracy of greed, dirty money, and powerful men who will stop at nothing to protect their empire. The deeper Luke digs, the more he’s forced to confront who he really is: a man at home on the other side of the caution tape. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jon Sealy is the author of the Detective Luke Steele mysteries, set in the fictional town of Issaqueena, South Carolina — “the last small town in America.” The series launches in 2026 with the novella Chasing Keys, followed by The Night Hawk (September 2026) and Snowfall (January 2027). Jon’s debut novel, The Whiskey Baron (Hub City Press, 2014), explored bootlegging and cotton mill culture in Depression-era South Carolina. He has since published three additional novels and the craft memoir So You Want to Be a Novelist. His short fiction has appeared in The Normal School, PANK and The Sun, among other venues, and his nonfiction has appeared in The Rumpus, The Millions, the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and The Catholic Virginian.
