Collage Workshop: Decontextualize to Re-contextualize led by Marlet Howard at Ma’s House

Please join us this Sunday, August 9th, at 6 pm for a collage workshop with current resident artist Marley Howard! In this workshop, participants will learn ways to use accessible found materials and scraps (magazines, used books, catalogs) to create images that resonate with their own ancestry and personal stories. Marley Howard (she/they) is an Afro-Caribbean singer-songwriter and visual artist based in New York City whose interdisciplinary practice draws from Black American traditions, surrealism, protest, feminism, and lived history. Trained in jazz for more than a decade, she earned a degree in Jazz Voice from Oberlin Conservatory and developed a strong commitment to preserving Black American music and art histories. Her music is rooted in blues and folk, while her mixed-media collage and painting explore the body, femininity, gender, Black experience, illness, fantasy, and social conditions. Howard also performs with the Resistance Revival Chorus, a 25-member femme ensemble dedicated to sustaining protest music and freedom songs. A 2020 YoungArts Voice finalist and recipient of Oberlin Entrepreneurship Grants and a 2025 YoungArts Creative Grant, she is currently producing her debut album and developing a new series of collage works.
