Please join us Sunday, May 31st at 6pm for a free public workshop with current resident artist Lehna Huie! Self expression stems from the root of our nature and what makes us unique in the world. This workshop uses portraiture as a tool to explore the self, reflecting the many identities we carry. Participants will engage in creating artworks through intuition, deep reflection, and visioning using a variety of colorful mediums to push creative boundaries. Participants will reflect collectively, creating from sites of memory, hope, honoring, and celebrating the present, with a focus on identity, where we come from, and what we would like to lift up and remember. There will also be time to identify what moves us to thrive on an individual level as well as a community level, and to discuss how that impacts our health, productivity, and how we move in the world. Participants are encouraged to bring photos, papers, and other materials of loved ones, community, and sacred imagery that can be incorporated into collage and mixed media work. About Lehna Huie Drawing inspiration from Caribbean oral histories and dream landscapes, Lehna transforms material into visual meditations that evoke a sense of mysticism and wonder. Lehna’s work is an ongoing exploration of memory, lineage, and the stories that shape us. Concentrated on tracing non-linear time and ritual, her compositions combine paint, textile scraps, paper, beads, shells, plant matter, and everyday objects to honor and personify the land and waters surrounding her roots.
