This symposium, presented in conjunction with the opening of Sewn + Collected: Sweetgrass Baskets, brings together leading scholars, artists, and collectors to explore the history, craft, and cultural significance of Lowcountry sweetgrass basketry. Schedule: 2 pm | Keynote by Dale Rosengarten, the author of Row Upon Row, an in-depth, illustrated history of South Carolina’s Lowcountry baskets. 3 pm | Sweetgrass basket sewing demonstration by artist Elizabeth Mazyck. 3:30 pm | Panel discussion led by exhibition curator and sweetgrass basket scholar, Amelia Muller, with Elizabeth Mazyck, Dale Rosengarten, and collector Allison Gulick Muller, lender to the exhibition. 4:45 – 5:30 pm | Reception Image: Elizabeth Mazyck, Triple In-and-Out Basket with Handle, sweetgrass, bulrush, and palmetto.
