Workshops Arts & Culture

In conjunction with Re|Sounding, now on view, join Maine Maritime Museum this spring and summer for an artist workshop and lecture series. Each month from May through August, we are hosting a different contributing artist for a unique learning experience, each examining art as a tool for exploring histories, and uncovering how historical and cultural contexts can influence art.  Each of the four artists leading these interdisciplinary workshops will bring a distinctive approach to exploring both local and personal histories through art. Come learn more about their individual craft and get a better glimpse inside their process, before practicing it yourself! Workshop facilitator and storyteller Antonio Rocha (pronounced Haw-sha) will guide you on a journey in order to develop a story that will be based on your own historical recovery. We all have ancestors, past relatives, or family traumatic events that have somehow shaped our own lives. These are hidden truths, that once recovered and brought to light can create a better understanding of self and how we see the world around us. Crafting such true stories can bring forward a new path forward in our own lives.  Antonio will also share the tools, and storytelling techniques necessary in order to bring these stories to life through oral tradition.  You are welcome to bring family pictures and objects that are part of this journey of self recovery and understanding of self. Antonio’s passion for teaching his craft has brought his workshops to various events across the US as well as to several countries around the globe. For more information about this unique artist please visit www.storyinmotion.com Workshop attendees are also welcome to stay late for a lecture from Antonio from 6:00–7:00 pm.
