About this event
One of 798 upcoming events at Maryland-National Capital Park, and 2,866 across Washington.
The Uhuru Quilters Guild, based in District Heights, Maryland, presents Threads of Uhuru, a collection of works unified by the spirit of “Uhuru,” the Swahili word for freedom—expressed through creativity, cultural identity, and artistic excellence. While diverse in subject matter, the quilts reflect a shared commitment to storytelling and community. Founded in 1995 with their first exhibition at Oxon Hill High School, the Guild has spent over three decades enriching the region through exhibitions, workshops, and public programs, with presentations at institutions including the Smithsonian, the Corcoran Art Gallery, and the National Zoo, as well as numerous libraries, cultural organizations, and community events throughout Maryland and the greater D.C. area.
