Join LTC Volunteer Ambassador Richard Jenkins at this beautiful, forested preserve with shoreline on Susan Creek. Excellent wildlife habitat is provided throughout a mix of habitat types, including wet meadows, black ash swamp, cedar thickets, ponds, and hardwoods. 2.37 miles of trails are available to explore, with an adjacent natural area owned by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. What will I be doing? This is a much-loved preserve close to town. Sometimes walking slippery boardwalks limits the number of people who can use these trails. We will be installing non-slip tread on them to make it safer and more enjoyable. This includes walking up to two miles on uneven terrain, possibly wheeling a wheelbarrow of materials or carrying small tools. This is a great project for kids and families. What do I need to bring? Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Bring water and a backpack, as the work site is a distance from the parking area. Also bring your favorite work gloves. Don't have any? We have extra, no worries. We will bring tools, snacks, and extra refreshments to keep you motivated and feeling good. Please sign the volunteer waiver before you arrive if you haven't done so in the past year. Where should I meet you? Meet at the preserve parking area along US31. 10570 US31 North, Charlevoix, MI 49720. Directions. https://maps.app.goo.gl/PoUFab2Rhz4ntZQB7 Please REGISTER so we have enough tools and carpool seats for everyone. We look forward to seeing you out there, and if not this time, we will see you on the trails in the future.
