These beginner-friendly sessions are perfect for those new to mountain biking. You’ll build confidence and essential riding skills in a fun, supportive environment. Session I will cover: • Proper bike setup and a safety check of your bike and equipment • Turning, pedaling, shifting and braking techniques on a mountain bike • The right body positioning for varied terrain • Trail etiquette, right of way, and how to properly pass others on the trail Session II will cover • Review Session I skills • Practice drills that build balance, stability and trail awareness • Learn the Relaxed and Ready positions • Practice smooth shifting • Master safe emergency stopping Requirements for the Clinic: • You need to understand the basics of riding a bike on pavement • Your bike needs to be rideable on dirt trails – it must have knobby tires • Your bike needs to be in good working order – before you arrive at the Clinic be sure gears shift and brakes work, and tires are inflated to 25-30psi Please note that e-bikes are not allowed in the Clinics. Learning to ride an e-mountain bike is not part of this course. Difficulty Level: The clinics are designed for those wanting to learn how to ride on dirt trails. It is great for beginners and an excellent refresher for more experienced riders. Distance & Elevation Gain: As part of each session you will ride approximately 1 mile at the trailhead doing skills training. We will also do a 3-5 mile ride on easy trails following the skills sessions. Clinic Location: Both sessions begin at the south end of the Pima-Dynamite Trailhead parking lot. Look for our sandwich boards in the parking lot. Mountain Bike Event Requirements: Helmets are mandatory for all bike events. A mountain bike with wide knobby tires is required – please, no road bikes, hybrids, or folding bikes.
