About this event
One of 100 upcoming events at McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, and 4,740 across Phoenix.
Ride to the Crested Saguaros from Pima Dynamite Trailhead. Difficulty Level: This route is best for advanced beginner/intermediate riders. We will ride at an easier pace, and good cardio and bike handling skills are necessary. All our rides are “No Drop” meaning no rider will be left behind the group. Distance & Elevation Gain: This will be 12 miles with 600 feet of elevation gain. Expect a 3 hour ride at an easier pace (appx 8 mph average speed at Browns). Ride Overview: The Preserve has a large number of saguaros, including some that are over 200 years old. A fan-shaped growth happens on only a few, resulting in a rare “crested saguaro”. This ride will point out many of the crested saguaros throughout the western area. The ride will be led by Conservancy stewards. Come out and learn more about the lifecycle of the amazing saguaros in our Sonoran Desert. Mountain Bike Event Requirements: Helmets are mandatory for all bike events. A mountain bike with wide knobby tires is required – please, no road bikes, hybrids, or folding bikes. Your bike must be in good working order – please check the tires, brakes, chain and general functionality before leaving home. E-bikes are allowed. You are expected to ride at the group speed and be cautious about passing or encountering others on the trails. What to Bring: A backpack with 2-3 liters of water, spare tubes and tools plus energy snacks. Restrooms are available at the trailhead. It’s always smart to have a paper map or mapping app in case you get separated from the group. Arrive 15 minutes before start of the ride for check-in and a brief bike inspection. Space is limited!
