Scenic Rock Formations Ride from Fraesfield Trailhead Difficulty Level: This route is best for beginner/intermediate riders. We will ride at a moderate pace – good cardio and bike handling skills are necessary. All our rides are “No Drop” meaning no rider will be left behind the group. Distance & Elevation Gain: This will be 12 miles with 600 feet of elevation gain. We will stop at each formation and learn about the geology. Expect a 2.5 hour ride at a moderate pace (appx 8-9 mph average speed at Browns). Ride Overview: Browns Ranch has a lot of amazing scenery including several natural rock formations. This beginner paced ride will have stops at three incredible sights: Cathedral Rock, The Amphitheater and Balanced Rock. These rock formations were created ages ago and have been used by indigenous people for centuries – we are very fortunate to be able to enjoy these areas now. Conservancy stewards will lead this ride and at each stop we will learn about the geology and history of the very large rock formations. The ride will be at a slow, casual pace so we can enjoy the scenery and our fellow riders. This event is ideal for those early in their MTB career or new to group rides. We’ll start at the Fraesfield trailhead for a 12 mile ride with only 500 ft of climbing. There are no technical areas and the trails are nice and smooth. We will stop periodically to rest and regroup. Plan on 3 hours with stops at the three major rock formations. Mountain Bike Event Requirements: Helmets are mandatory for all bike events. A mountain bike with wide knobby tires is required – please, no road bikes, hybrids, or folding bikes. Your bike must be in good working order – please check the tires, brakes, chain and general functionality before leaving home. E-bikes are allowed. You are expected to ride at the group speed and be cautious about passing or encountering others on the trails. What to Bring: A backpack with 2-3 liters of water, spare tubes and tools plus energy snacks. Restrooms are available at the trailhead. It’s always smart to have a paper map or mapping app in case you get separated from the group. Arrive 15 minutes before start of the ride for check-in and a brief bike inspection. Space is limited! Please save your spot with the RSVP below.
