Art Start: Woodblock Printing (10AF26)

Join the waitlist Taught by: Ashley Rehler Woodblock carving is one of the oldest forms of printmaking, a relief method in which wood is carved away to create an image. In this class, you will watch demonstrations of each step: creating an image, transferring the image to a woodblock, carving, and hand-printing. Students then create their own woodblock, carve it out, and produce prints worthy of framing! No experience necessary; beginners and intermediates welcome. Please note: All class supplies are provided. Prior to arrival, we recommend that students consider a handful of ideas for their woodblock and print out a copy of the chosen image. Ideal imagery has bold shapes or lines to make carving easier. Woodblock dimensions are approximately 6×6 inches. Students will have about an hour and a half to carve their images. Materials All materials provided.
