Workshops

Thursday, June 4; 6–9pm CT Inspired by the methods of papyrus-making, we will transform materials such as beet, apple, zucchini, and carrot into handmade paper. Learn how to make paper using fruits and vegetables in this in-person workshop! Through slicing, layering, and pressing, we will explore how everyday foods can become unexpected artistic materials. The unique cross-sections and natural pigments of each fruit and vegetable allow us to experiment with shape, pattern, translucency, and color. These works result in delicate, one-of-a-kind sheets. This process invites reflection on materiality, sustainability, and the ways food excess and waste might be transformed. Wear clothes that can get dirty and non-slip, supportive, water-resistant shoes (i.e., rubber boots, garden clogs, etc.). Participants may need to return to pick up their paper on Saturday, 6/13,or later in The Shop at MCBA to allow the wet sheets of paper time to dry. Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome. Certificate: 3 hours, Category A or D Pricing $70 | $35 Scholarship | $105 Pay-It-Forward $15 materials fee Scholarships are available for individuals facing adversity as it relates to identity, income/wealth, and lack of access to arts resources.
