This Showdown is for the sweet and spicy homemade salsas and local restaurants that make their own salsa to finally get the credit they deserve. Restaurants will be competing to earn your vote for Minot's Best Salsa! Stop in and taste the salsas, then vote! Homemade salsa will be judged by our panel of celebrity judges with the help of the People's Favorite Jar Decoration to crown the winners in 4 categories and 2 divisions. Salsa will be judged on appearance, color, flavor and texture. Decorate your Jar for the chance to win People's Choice! Get all major produce supplies from one or more of our market vendors and get yourself entered for a BONUS prize! Adult Division: $15 per entry Youth Division: $10 per entry Pre-Registration begins August 2026, entries can be dropped off September 29, October 1, 3 or on October 6 at the Market. Need not be present to compete. 2 Age Divisions - Youth & Adult Multiple Categories - Spicy, Sweet, Traditional and Non-Traditional Prizes for 1st and 2nd in each category and division Prize for the People's Choice Salsa Jar Decoration Individuals making salsa should register below. Early bird registration saves $5 per entry, and closes September 15. To Compete You Must: Have made your salsa in your home. Any commercial kitchen or commercial sales salsas are not eligible. Bring the recipe for your salsa with your entry. Indicate on your entry the date it was made. (Must be fresh made for competition or fresh preserved using the approved hot water method) Bring your entry in a one pint, sealable container such as a ball or mason jar with sealable lid or a “Zip Lock” type container with sealable lid if fresh made. The same salsa may be entered in one or more categories. A seperate 1 pint containor must be provided. Categories: ** Must choose 1 per entry ** Sweet: May use any kind of base. Flavoring components are left up to entrant but the dominant flavor must be some kind of sweetness. Spicy: May use any base. Flavoring components left up to entrant but it should be hot. Make the judges sweat! Traditional: Uses tomatoes or tomatillos as a base. Must contain onions, cilantro, and some form of chile pepper(spiciness left to entrant), other flavor components left to entrant. Non-traditional: Base can be anything other than tomatoes or tomatillos. Must contain onions, cilantro, and some form of chile pepper(spiciness left to entrant), other flavor components left to entrant. We came, we saw, we salsa'd! A national contest is on to name the best market! If we get enough votes we'll win $10,000 to support all things community and local within our market - but first we have to win "Favorite Market" and we're a few votes behind. It's free and easy to vote. It does require an email address to ensure that actual people are placing votes. Vote & Share until August 1 We are looking forward to a long fall and that means all of the pumpkins, gords, and cornstalks you can handle! Come in and enjoy the sweet treats that the fall brings. You'll be able to create a beautiful cornstalk bundle decoration and paint pumpkins! Saturday, September 21 - 10am - 1pm Registration opens mid-September We're looking for the youngest farmers, bakers, and makers to bring their goods and make a few sales! Do you have a young entrepreneur in your home? Get them started on inventory and register them for their very own booth to be set up alongside or Market Members on Saturday, September 23. Registration opens July 10. FREE to Participate and Attend If you can pickle it, you can enter it! This contest is for all ages and pickled items.
