Join us for a monthly “coffee chat” series featuring an Art Historian and Lecturer LaVada Raouf as we explore the stories of women who shaped the course of art history. From the status-marking portraits of early America to the radical energy of the Ninth St. Women, these sessions dive deep into the artists and cultural icons who defied the status quo. Whether you’re an art history aficionado or just looking for an inspired way to spend your weekend, come enjoy light refreshments (think bagels, donuts, and coffee) and engaging conversation. Each session will reflect on the profound impact of women in creativity. Monthly Topics: October: Yankee Doodle Dandy – Portraiture as memory and status. November: All That Jazz – The maturity of American Modernism and Abstraction. December: Americans Abroad – The influential ex-pats of Paris. January: The People’s Canvas – Women of the WPA and the Depression era. February: Old School Feminism – From Judy Chicago to the Guerrilla Girls. March: The Living Record – Identity, the Male Gaze, and rewriting history. April: Ninth St. Women – The powerhouse women of Abstract Expressionism.
