Upcoming Presentation | Perks for Parents! | Program Policies Middle and high school students, come indulge in an evening of mathematical (and parent-free!) fun at MoMath's mix-n-mingle program. Explore dynamic exhibits and enjoy fun, hands-on mathematical activities designed with you in mind. Vibe with a peer group that thinks math is cool, and don’t miss the chance to boogie down on New York City’s only interactive, light-up Voronoi dance floor. And enjoy boundless cookies and hot cocoa! MOST provides opportunities for students to explore engaging math with dynamic, early-career female mathematicians. To learn more about MOST, visit momath.org/most. This program is made possible in part by the generous support of Peter Bloom, in memory of his mother, Naomi Bloom. Featuring a special program with MOST Fellow Katie Keegan Saturday, September 26 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (in person+drop-off) Unlimited on September 26 will begin promptly at 6:30 pm with a special program brought to you by the Mathematics Outreach Seminar and Training (MOST) program. All students must be signed in and out by an adult chaperone. Students 16 and older with proof of ID may be granted an exception. Students must be dropped off and picked up by an adult chaperone (with one exception at MoMath’s discretion): An adult chaperone (a parent, guardian, or other designated provider) must be present to sign in/out each student. The adult chaperone must provide a mobile number to be contacted in the event of an emergency during the event. Students cannot sign themselves in for the event nor self-dismiss, and curbside drop-offs and pick-ups cannot be accommodated. An exception to this policy may be granted, at MoMath’s sole discretion, to registered attendees ages 16 and older who can show proof of age with a valid photo ID. (MoMath reserves the right to revoke any exceptions previously granted at any time, should any concerns arise about the safety and security of the event and its participants or for any reason.) This is strictly a students-only event: For the safety and security of the event attendees, only registered students and MoMath event staff and volunteers will be admitted into the Unlimited event space — there are no exceptions. During the event, adults may stand in the lobby or leave the Museum to return no later than 8:30 pm to pick up their child(ren). If you intend to pick up your child before the event ends, it is recommended that you inform a MoMath staff member at drop-off as well as coordinate directly with your child via their mobile so that your child knows to come to the lobby at the designated time. MoMath’s photography and media releases: By registering for this event, all participants inherently agree to the terms and conditions of MoMath’s standard photograph permission and release form. All participants of any event at MoMath must agree to these terms. If you would like to request that your child is not photographed during an Unlimited event, please discuss this at drop-off with the manager in charge. While MoMath may not be able to accommodate all requests, it is uncommon for MoMath to take event photographs of Unlimited sessions and/or we will try to not include your child in photos, if possible. With World Cup visitors crowding New York, hotel rooms are limited. MoMath strongly recommends booking early. MoMath has reserved a fully refundable block of rooms at three conveniently located hotels: Additional hotel options: In this imaginative, short book inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Aastha transports readers into “Calculand,” where Alice encounters the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and a delightfully silly caterpillar. Along the way, these whimsical characters introduce her to the core ideas of calculus: derivatives, limits, and the chain rule. With lively illustrations and playful storytelling, the project makes potentially intimidating concepts feel approachable. The judges admired the ingenuity of blending a beloved literary classic with mathematical ideas to create a welcoming doorway into calculus. Click here to read Aastha’s book. Purav’s “The Ballad of the Broken Sum” is a poetic yet comical tragedy told from the perspective of the harmonic series itself. Through verse, the series laments its fate: each term shrinking smaller and smaller, yet the sum forever refusing to settle. Along the way, Purav weaves in classical proofs—like Oresme’s grouping argument—while capturing the anxiety, persistence, and paradoxical “unharmonic” quality of this famous divergent series. The work is bold, poignant, and remarkably original, transforming a deep mathematical idea into a human drama. The judges were struck by its gutsiness, creativity, and emotional resonance, praising it as an unforgettable example of how poetry can illuminate mathematics. Click here to read Purav’s poem.
