On July 9th, the Montshire is partnering with the Appalachian Mountain Club to celebrate AMC’s 150th anniversary and community science with a day-long BioBlitz at the Museum. Join AMC and Montshire staff for a day of exploration as we work together to document the plants and animals that live on the museum grounds as part of an ongoing research effort to learn more about the Museum’s property. Using the iNaturalist app, participants will help collect real scientific observations that contribute to biodiversity research at the Museum and beyond. Start the day with an optional morning workshop where AMC and Montshire staff will share how they use iNaturalist and guide you through getting started with the app. Then head outside for guided nature walks across the Montshire property. AMC and Montshire staff will lead walks, help identify species, and answer questions about using iNaturalist. Stop by the AMC table anytime throughout the afternoon to connect with staff, brush up on iNaturalist, and learn more about community science. Whether you’re new to iNaturalist or already love documenting nature with the app, this is a great opportunity to explore, celebrate, and contribute to community science. For the best experience, we advise that you come with the iNaturalist app downloaded on your phone. We can help you get started if you run into trouble!
