Finding The Middle Path (Floor Yoga)

This slow yoga workshop is designed to explore and relieve tension in the body through simple somatic movements that can help bring the body back into a state of calm particularly before sleep. In this practice we will slowly relax the body, move from periphery to center, in order to prepare for the possibility of the still point. In yoga, The Middle Way is a place that exists between these opposing forces that polarize, divide, isolate and cause imbalance. And in the body, the spinal column houses the central nervous system, and in doing so, forms the central axis from which all movement ripples. In this unique class we will spend time opening up this central channel of the body through movements that stretch, lengthen, and make the spine supple. All exercises will be performed slowly, on the floor, and without force. This 60 minute sequence will be oriented toward embodying the Middle Way - a path that is free from distraction and division. Rooted in yoga, zen buddhism, and somatic therapy this unique session will integrate sensory awareness practice and finely articulated movements to unite breath and motion, promoting fascial release without strain.
