About Carl Stoveland Carl Stoveland is an artist and photographer living and working in Lake Worth Beach. Carl is a founding Member of the Lake Worth Beach Urban Sketchers group and was 2020 Artist in residence at Dry Tortugas National Park where he and another artist lived off the grid entirely creating art and photography for the entire month of September. One of Carl’s previous projects was the photo documentary exhibits IAMLAKEWORTH and IAMLAKEWORTHTOO that were displayed at the Hatch in 2018 and 2019. Carl was managing partner at Gallery Meraki in Garnerville, NY from 2014 to 2016 where he exhibited his own work as well as taught workshops in Photography and Photoshop. His current passions are watercolor and acrylic painting and Urban Sketching. Carl grew up in New York near the Catskill Mountains and found his passion for photography and painting hiking along the many trails and streams near his home. His dad spent his entire career working in photo labs and his mom is an oil painter and watercolorist. So the apple didn’t fall far from the tree! Carl’s Suggested Supplies for Watercolor Class Everyone is different with what works for them. If you already have some items or paints feel free to bring them. No need to buy the whole list you can always pick up items as you see them in use. Good paper and a decent brush or two will get you going in the right direction. Start with what you have. When I have made suggestions it is to get you started with good materials which can really help avoid some of the early frustrations that come with watercolor painting. Watercolor Paper 140lb Coldpress Cotton Rag Book, block or sheets Arches blocks I strongly recommend for ease of use and the fact that the paper does not buckle or need to be stretched. Don’t buy Canson Pads of watercolor paper. It is 140lb paper but we have found it is very streaky and frustrating for students starting out. I like Arteza for books. If you are going to work from a sketchbook these are great. I really like this one it comes in a two pack and has really nice paper Arteza watercolor notebook 2 pack: https://arteza.com/products/9×12-watercolor-books-2. Watercolors tubes or pans QoR, Winsor and Newton, Cheap Joe’s American Journey are all good choi...
