Equipped with provided flashlights and guided by Kesha, you will venture into the field to: Expert Instruction: Scout real locations where bats are likely to roost. The Night Trek: Spot these fascinating nocturnal creatures in action above the garden canopy. An Acoustic Hunt: Listen to high-frequency bat calls using specialized acoustic monitors. Become an active part of local conservation. You will leave this class fully equipped to make a difference with immediate, actionable steps to: Identify the ideal, safe locations in your yard to install bat houses and nesting boxes. Choose native plants and water elements that naturally attract the insects bats feed on, creating a self-sustaining backyard ecosystem. Use your new knowledge to dispel common myths, protect local wildlife, and help reduce pest populations naturally right at home. This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Friday, October 16, 2026 (Rain Date: Saturday, October 17). 🥬 Certificate of Attendance for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) available About the Instructor: Kesha Braunskill is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and founder of the nonprofit organization, Delaware Bat Rehabilitation and Conservation (DBRC). Kesha has a professional background in wildlife, ecology and urban forestry. DBRC’s mission is to rehabilitate injured and orphaned bats in Delaware. Every year the organization fields over 100 calls from the public and rescues and rehabilitates dozens of bats around the state providing them with veterinary care with the goal to release then back to the wild. Jointly with rehabilitation, DBRC aims to increase public awareness around the importance of conservation and stewardship of our natural lands which is key to healthy habitats for wildlife.
