Whether you’re new to gardening or looking to strengthen your botanical knowledge, this course offers an inspiring look at the hidden life of plants and equips you with insights you can apply to your garden and beyond. Portions of the class may take place outdoors—please dress for the weather. This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August 28, 2026. About the Instructor: Melissa Starkey earned her PhD in biology from Northwestern University and an MSc in plant biodiversity and taxonomy from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and University of Edinburgh in Scotland. As part of her studies, she completed a certificate in field botany in Colombia. Melissa is also the Marketing and Communications Manager at Mt. Cuba Center.
