About this event

Outdoors

Looking for a quiet, creative way to reconnect with nature and sharpen your observation skills? Nature Journaling invites you to use words and pictures to collect and record your observations and connections to the natural world. This immersive class teaches you to observe and record the living landscape shapes, textures, patterns, and seasonal changes within Mt. Cuba’s formal and naturalistic gardens. Take these skills beyond Mt. Cuba into your garden or on your next walk. Guided by simple prompts and workshop activities, you’ll learn how journaling can deepen observation, strengthen your connection to place, and create a personal record you can return to again and again. No drawing or writing experience is required; nature journaling is about noticing, not perfection! Most of the class will take place outdoors, so please dress for the terrain and weather. Bring a journal that suits your style and a #2 pencil. This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Saturday, April 18, 2026. About the Instructor: Kathleen Elliot is an Educator at Mt. Cuba Center with a deep commitment to ecological gardening and native plant appreciation. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Plant Science and English from the University of Delaware and earned a Certificate of Merit in Landscape Design from Longwood Gardens. Kathleen is also a certified Nature Journaling Educator through the Wild Wonder Foundation’s Educator Program. She brings her expertise to a variety of classes—from nature journaling to creative container gardening—where she inspires others to connect with the natural world and cultivate environmentally mindful gardens.
