About this event

As storms intensify and rainfall runoff becomes an increasingly prevalent problem across the Mid-Atlantic, homeowners are seeking smarter, greener ways to manage water on their land. Using a real-life case study, instructor Hap Haven will lead you to an exploration of nine innovative water management systems, and how, together, they make up the key pillars of regenerative residential design. However, we don’t just stop identifying and sharing the idea, instead we take a deeper-dive by putting you in the engineering seat and applying. Together with Mt. Cuba’s Charlie Wilson, we’ll co-create a practical design for your specific property by reviewing your site at conditions, clarifying your goals and identifying problem areas. Leave empowered with a customized recommended plan and the confidence to implement meaningful water-management improvements on your land. Learn how permeable surfaces, soil health, native plants, and thoughtful hydrological design can transform your ponded/washed out landscape into a resilient, beautiful, eco-friendly oasis. A personal laptop is required for this class. If you don’t have access to one, reach out to education@mtcubacenter.org so we can provide accommodations. You’ll need to bring photos of your property—especially images captured during a rain event or of problem areas. This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Saturday, April 25, 2026 About the Instructors: Hap Haven has been a national leader in the field of energy education for more than 30 years. Hap is a BPI certified contractor and proctor. He is also an award winning gardener and actively involved in his community.
