Family Day: Algorithms + Assemblage Saturday, November 14, 2026 11:00 AM-3:00 PM The Museum of Art + Light Free Family Day is for everyone to enjoy. Admission includes family activities, a family-friendly robot demonstration, and access to the digital and fine art galleries on floors two and three. Admission to the immersive Mezmereyz Galleries is sold separately. Program Description: Bring the whole family to Algorithms + Assemblage, a free Family Day exploring the creative connections between art, language, technology, and hands-on making. Algorithms + Assemblage, invites families to experiment, create, and discover how artists turn ideas, instructions, words, and everyday materials into works of art. This Family Day is inspired by contemporary digital artists Nathaniel Stern and Sasha Stiles who collaborate with computers by writing code, and their exhibition Generation to Generation: Conversing with Kindred Technologies. Family Day Activities: Write a simple algorithm, a set of steps that tells you how to do something or solve a problem Create an assemblage sculpture using discarded materials, then add it to a temporary museum display or take it home Write poetry or complete a wordplay activity inspired by works on view Shape and sculpt a miniature artwork with air-dry clay using language prompts Create a miniature plate or bowl in air-dray clay inspired by the work of Pablo Picasso Meet a Robot: Families and children of all ages can also take part in live demonstrations about artificial intelligence, creativity, and learning led by Jeongki Lim, Dean of Parsons School of Design at The New School. Participants will learn about AI by meeting and a live robot. Demonstrations will take place in Classroom One at: 11:30 AM – 11:50 PM 12:30 PM – 12:50 PM 1:30 PM – 1:50 PM For Girl Scouts: Girl Scouts can complete the steps and requirements for earning: Coding Basics (Badge 1) for Brownies and Juniors Scribe Badge for Juniors Art and Design Badge for Brownies Note: Badges are not provided. Supplies and steps for earning badges can be fulfilled with these Family Day activities. Scouts are encouraged to wear Girl Scout gear, though it is not required, and should check in at the special Girl Scout station. Family Day activities and access to the museum’s digital and fine art galleries on floors two and three are free for all to enjoy. Admission to the immersive Mezmereyz Galleries is sold separately.
