America 250 is not just about what transpired in the U.S.; it also inspired change globally. This special Sandbar Lecture, “A Model Revolution: The Global Impact of America’s Independence” is part of the Museum and Planetarium’s celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Join Ginger R. Davis is the Executive Director of the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, Latimer House, and Kellam Archive to learn how world revolutions in the 19th and 20th centuries demonstrate how foreign leaders drew upon the examples of Washington and Jefferson and used documents such as the Declaration of Independence as models for their own statements. The American Revolution was an ideological catalyst for global anti-colonialism, offering a blueprint for self-determination that later influenced Asian and African independence movements. It popularized the rhetoric of liberty and natural rights. After 25+ years as a history professor with specializations in U.S. Foreign Policy, the Cold War, Vietnamese Studies, U.S. Military History, and Black Liberation Studies, Davis is now semi-retired from academia. A Fulbright awardee, she taught at Vietnam National University for nearly a decade before returning to her home state of N.C., teaching at Duke University and Norwich University while becoming involved in local historic preservation efforts. She received her B.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, her M.A. from Texas Tech University, and her doctorate from Temple University
