About this event

From the 1980’s through the 2000’s, Mickey Gil was an unforgettable Jewish fixture in New Orleans’ gay Carnival scene. This talk, given by Tulane professor Golan Moskowitz, situates Gil within the history of Jewish American drag and gay Mardi Gras traditions, using archival footage, costumes, and oral histories to bring to life a figure who embodies the brilliance and contradictions of queer performance in the South. This event is co-sponsored by the Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience and JPNOLA.  This is an in-person and virtual event. Register for the Event
