History on Tap

The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County invites you to History on Tap Thursday, August 27 at 6:30pm. Museum Director Alissa Keller will present on the poetry of bell hooks – on the eve of the literary legend’s birthday. Hopkinsville native bell hooks – born Gloria Jean Watkins – was a writer, philosopher, feminist icon, educator, activist, and a force in feminist theory and in cultural criticism. After growing up in a segregated Hopkinsville, she created over 70 pieces of published work, ranging from films, to children’s books, to poetry. This installment of History on Tap will focus on hooks’ poetry and verse, most famously published in her book Appalachian Elegy. History on Tap is a free series that seeks to share local history in a relaxed, fun setting. Programs are typically held on the last Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company.
