Each dialogue functions as an individual chapter, unpacking a single artist’s material practice, ancestral ties, and creative process. This dialogue with artist ashleigh steele chavez focuses on honoring the body as an archive of geographic permeance, and generational survival i thought i saw you yesterday is a group exhibition that explores memory and ancestral knowledge to create a dialogue between life cycles, food, land, place, and the body. Featuring artworks by artists Amanda Dannáe Romero, ashleigh steele chavez, Caroline Liu, claudia hermano, Esteban Ismael Durán, Jesus Miguel Avena, Joe Ramiro Garcia, Margarita Paz-Pedro, and Stephanie J. About the artist: ashleigh steele chavez is an Albuquerque born multidisciplinary artist and mother. she received her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and political science and works in public service with incarcerated peoples in New Mexico. her work in pointillism conveys the irreverent joy and intrinsic fragility of our nature as humans, alongside our innate cruelty; while using a medium that is made available to all incarcerated peoples. ashleigh draws the people, places, and experiences of Burque that have most affected her life trajectory in her ancestral home.
