Herencia Speaker Series: Faith and Resilience Saturday, October 10, 2026, 10:00 am (Film) & 11:00 (Presentation) NHCC | Salón Ortega Head to the Center for a presentation by Cecilia Navarrete and Anthony DellaFlora on the centuries-old reverence for La Virgen de Guadalupe and the lives built around the Albuquerque’s historic railyard. 10:00am Fiestas of Our Lady of Guadalupe: A Century of Veneration by Anthony DellaFlora Anthony DellaFlora began his award-winning documentary film career more than 25 years ago as producer of the cult classic High Strange New Mexico, an independent production about the state’s UFO subculture. Since then, he has produced dozens of documentaries for PBS, GOV-TV and the city’s Public Art program on a variety of subjects including the Balloon Fiesta, Open Space, the National Senior Games, Breaking Bad, volcanoes, Native American cosmology, public art projects, and the federal judicial system. 11:00am Forged in Diversity: Albuquerque Railyard Workers (1880-1950) by Cecilia Navarrete Cecilia Navarrete is a native New Mexican who partnered with William Brown of the Wheels Museum to research the lives of Albuquerque railyards workers. Drawing on historical records, their work highlights the contributions of New Mexico Hispanos and Mexican immigrants to the railroad industry and Albuquerque’s growth. A former educator, researcher, and consultant with a Ph.D. from Stanford University, Cecilia brings more than 45 years of experience to preserving and sharing New Mexico history.
