Many places in the massive Bethlehem Steel plant were 24/7 operations. Although some areas glowed with molten metal after sunset, other locations were dark, illuminated only when workers with company issued flashlights navigated the maze-like facilities. Now guests can participate in a guided tour of the plant after dark, utilizing flashlights to experience the former steel mill by spotlighting specific features and peering into areas otherwise in the shadows during the day. The tours will leave from the Museum, walk the Hoover-Mason trestle, look at the east side of the blast furnace complex from the ground, and return to the Museum at street level, all while using flashlights to focus on details and stories from “The Steel.” Please bring your own flashlight and wear comfortable walking shoes. Participants will be required to sign a waiver at check in. This tour happens entirely in public spaces, but in the dark, with uneven surfaces and limited visibility. It is not a haunted/ghost tour, but some visitors may be uncomfortable with the lack of light, strange noises, and heights (46 feet). In the case of inclement weather (including rain, snow/ice, heavy winds, lightning), please check the museum website and WFMZ storm center for cancellations.
