Join us at the Nebraska History Museum for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Saturday, October 31st, with free admission from 9 AM to 4 PM! We’ll have activities for everyone in the family to celebrate the holiday! Our partner organizations will be posted throughout the museum. Activities Linked2Literacy and STUFF Creative Reuse (9am–1pm): Make a colorful felt calavera for Día de los Muertos. Decorate your own with reused materials, and explore books that connect to the celebration. Nebraska Commission on Latino-Americans (9am–4pm): Get hands-on with the Nebraska Commission on Latino-Americans, who seek to empower the Hispanic/Latino community through a proactive approach to issues that affect their access to education, social political, and economic opportunities in Nebraska. Lux Center for the Arts (9am–noon): Artist in residence Jose Galvan will be on hand with custom linocut print making! Lincoln Public Library (10am–1:30pm): Explore the bookmobile for your next favorite read! Echo Collective (noon–4pm): Hands-on culturally-enriched textile activity led by Latina entrepreneurs. Ford Conservation Center (10am–1pm): Stop by to ask your preservation questions. A member of the conservation team will be available to share advice on how to protect, preserve, and care for your family treasures. Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (9am–noon): Learn about Nebraska’s wildlife—their habitat and role in the ecosystem. And More! Play a Round of Nebraska-Themed Lotería—a traditional Mexican game, similar to bingo, but with a Nebraska twist. Scavenger Hunt—Explore the stories and history of Nebraska’s Hispanic and Latino communities through objects in our exhibits. Make Your Own Button/Sticker—Honor the loved ones you are remembering by creating a button or sticker. Matching Activity—Day of the Dead is celebrated in tons of different ways across the world! Can you match the tradition to the country it is from? The free admission for this event is funded by support from the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation.
