December 5, 2026, 1 – 2:30 pm Title of Program: Aurora Nevada-California, a brief history of Aurora, during the Civil War years, from 1860-1865. Fred Frampton, historian and archaeologist Speaker: Fred Frampton, retired archaeologist and historian Summary of Program: This lecture will give an overview of the history of Aurora during its boom and bust, especially highlighting some of the more important, or at least, interesting inhabitants. The talk will feature more than 100 historic photographs, many from our Historical Society, and from Mineral County Museum, Mono County Historical Society, and from private collections. In addition, a number of important references will be shared. A program you won’t want to miss! Speaker Bio: Fred Frampton received his BS and MA in Anthropology from Northern Arizona University. Fred worked briefly, as an archaeologist with the BLM in Ely, 1979-1981, and with the BLM in Elko, 1984-1986. He served, in Elko, as Forest Archaeologist on the Humboldt National Forest between 1987-2001. He then was the Forest Archaeologist on the combined Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest from 2001 until his retirement in 2015. Fred continues a bit of a retirement career, in history and archaeology, by providing lectures at UNR’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and elsewhere. We would like to thank our partner, the Washoe County Library System and the Sierra View Library for hosting our off-site lectures. Sierra View Library has been serving communities from Midtown to South Reno since 1987. Located inside the Reno Town Mall, directly across from the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, the library has two entrances. The front entrance allows visitors to stroll by shops and businesses in the mall, while the second entrance is accessible from the rear, south side of the mall. This back entrance has an ADA accessible lift. The address is 4001 S Virginia St, Reno, NV 89502.
