Main Street, Los Gatos, CA, 95030 Cost Free with registration New Museum Los Gatos welcomes the South Bay community to celebrate our current exhibitions, Reawakening: Muwekma Ohlone Culture and Connection in Pursuit of Recognition and Reawakening: Reciprocity of Land, Sea, and the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, at our Community Day on November 7th. This occasion will feature family-friendly activities, refreshments, games, and exhibition-inspired activations to honor and celebrate the culture and experiences of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. Stay tuned for more details! Viewers will learn about the Muwekma Ohlone’s “Trail of Truth” journey on horseback from California to Washington D.C. to advocate for the reinstatement of their federal recognition. They traveled with sacred horses gifted to them by the Lakota Nation, and were supported by several tribal nations across the US that welcomed them on their land and reinforced their message to the US Bureau of Indian Affairs. This exhibition focuses on the Muwekma Ohlone’s cultural and practical efforts in land stewardship, including cultural burns and the cultivation of native plants that provide resources for regalia making, food, and traditional healing. They are reawakening their Chochenyo language as well as dance, music, song, and ceremonies. This exhibition sheds light on the Tribe’s ongoing cultural revival after a century of erasure following the loss of, and the fight to regain, federal recognition. Exhibitions, programs, and operations are made possible by NUMU’s Board of Directors & Circle Members, the Michael & Alyce Parsons Art Endowment, Bequest of Beverly Ann Curtis, the Borgenicht Foundation, Ranae DeSantis, Christie's International Real Estate, The Flick Family, Jan Schwartz & Bob Baden, Lynx Properties, LLC, Carol & Rick Tinsley, The Town of Los Gatos, California Arts Council, and SVCreates, in partnership with the County of Santa Clara.
