NOMA at Night: Second Nature Public Opening Celebration

Get creative and explore the museum after hours! Featuring live music, specialty cocktails and mocktails by Café NOMA, art making, gallery talks, and more, NOMA at Night invites you to see the museum in a brand new light. At this NOMA at Night, come out and celebrate the public opening of the exhibition Second Nature: Japanese Rinpa Paintings from the Gitter-Yelen Collection, as well as the connected installation Good Fortune: 50 Years of Japanese Art at NOMA. $15 for members $30 general admission Free admission for attendees ages 19 and under Get Your Tickets Event Details Sensu Fans & Haiku Poetry 6 to 9 pm | Art Studio (Second Floor) Create your own Sensu fan, a folded-style, handheld fan that became popular for its portability during Japan’s Edo Period. Write your own haiku poem to incorporate into the fan’s design and bring your creation home with you. Gallery Talks 6:30 & 7:30 PM | Led by Lisa Rotondo-McCord, Deputy Director and Curator of Asian Art Dive deeper into Second Nature Japanese Rinpa Paintings from the Gitter-Yelen Collection in the first-floor Ella West Freeman Gallery, as well as and the connected installation Good Fortune: 50 Years of Japanese Art at NOMA in third-floor Kurt A. Gitter, MD and Alice Yelen Gitter Gallery. Live Music and DJ Sets 6-9 PM | DJ Set by SANA, Great Hall SANA is a Japanese-American, New York-raised DJ now based in New Orleans. She spins both digital and vinyl mediums, with her vinyl sets showcased on My Analog Journal. She currently has a monthly residency at Hotel St. Vincent, and can be found spinning at various venues across New Orleans. She made her festival debut this year at Electric Spring, followed by Bonnaroo and is set to play the upcoming festival “We Belong Here.” She has also teamed up with New Orleans DJ C’est Funk to form the duo “Benibe.” While her sound is rooted in a love of house and world music, her dynamic sets transcend genres and time, creating unforgettable, boundary-breaking dance floors. 7:45-8:45 | Live Music by Haruka Kikuchi & Friends, Lapis Center for the Arts Haruka Kikuchi is a trombone player, born and raised in Tokyo. Since she found a musical home in New Orleans in early 2014, she has been playing with groups including the Shotgun Jazz Band, Shake’Em Up Jazz Band, Preservation Hall All Stars, Original Tuxedo Jazz Band, and many more local musicians both within and outside the country. She is also known for passing down the New Orleans traditional “tailgate” style of trombone, always bringing joyful sounds through her timeless trombone.
